J. Sybylla Smith’s, Got Punctum? Podcast Launches on January 28, 2022

J. Sybylla Smith, International Consultant to Fine Art Photographers, Galleries & Museums launches a new podcast, Got Punctum?, a collection of deep dive conversations on creativity, photography and bookmaking.

The Got Punctum podcast is a natural evolution of the Photobook Book Group that began in March 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic and immediately became a place of creative refuge focused on creating community by sharing resources and challenges on creative practice and the bookmaking process. The Photobook Book Group offered a cross cultural exchange in real time. In its second session a photographer in Namibia connected a U.S.-based photographer to an exhibition opportunity in the Middle East. This outreach and engagement grew to serve audiences from 100 countries on four continents.

The inaugural episode of Got Punctum? launches on Friday January 28th and will feature an interview with photographer, Rich-Joseph Facun about his first monograph, Black Diamonds a visual narrative of place, time and belonging in Appalachia, the region Facun now calls “home”. In his Epilogue he writes; “My work is experiential and a visual exploration of place, community, and cultural identity in a polarized political climate and racially divided era in the United States…In the rural isolated foothills, pocked with poverty, these facets of Appalachia coexist with one another. A heritage of hospitality, not hate, is an unspoken psalm.”

Archived on all podcast platforms are the previous 36 sessions with guest photographers, editors, publishers and curators. Smith says, “We are excited to host a Winter session which is already up on our website with registration links to our scheduled talks. We have not changed the format from the unscripted conversations of our Photobook Book Group. The podcast will feature the first hour of our interview, while the live question and answer session will be live on our Zoom session only.”

Got Punctum? is available on major listening platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio and Stitcher.
