Teen Photo Workshops

Teaching Tomorrow’s Visual Activists

Mark Ostow and I met over consultation collaborations, as well as, crossing paths in the New England photo community. I was thrilled to have his latest session of his long-running Teen Photo Workshops come for a studio visit. My first group share of my Photobook Art Library since the pandemic.

I had a blast working with this age group! I had half do a visualization exercise and the other half dive into photobooks. My favorite moment was instructing them on how to see through a Viewfinder.

My main hope was to spark these teens with the power photography has to tell their unique story. And I drove home the fact they need to be educated consumers of imagery and question who is the storyteller, how they are sharing the story and why.

“Sybylla welcomed us into her studio with open arms. She challenged the kids to question ways of seeing and the creative process at large, inspiring them to walk away from the experience with a newfound appreciation for photography.”—Mark Ostow
